Wedding Shower Event Planning
In November of 2017, we received a call from our amazing client, and now, friend, Nancy who needed a break from event planning and wanted to hire some help. Being a mother of the bride is a great honor and represents a special time to be cherished for years to come. It also comes with a long list of event planning to-do’s. From helping the bride and groom search for the perfect wedding venue to being the point of contact for the wedding planner, to coordinating with family to make sure everyone knows where to stay and what to do while visiting for the wedding, it’s no walk in the park! There are certain moments as a mother of the bride that you want to relish and enjoy – not let pass you by while you’re busy with event planning. This was Nancy’s motivation for hiring Mercer + Smith to plan a wedding shower for her daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law. We were honored to be part of such a special event leading up to Lauren + Zach’s big day.
At our first consultation, we were inspired by Lauren + Zach’s beachy engagement photos and decided on a “Toast on the Coast” wedding shower theme. We wanted an old coastal Florida vibe so we went with a fresh color palette of soft mossy green, light gray and white. The Depot Park Boxcar Event Space offered the perfect rustic feel to go with our custom decor. Not only did its throwback atmosphere go with our theme, the Boxcar provided ample space for guest seating, hors d’oeuvre stations and entertainment. It is truly one of our favorite event spaces in Gainesville.
We custom designed and created a breezy welcome sign to greet guests upon arrival to the party. Other custom signage included framed table markers designating the gift table, kids corner, and food + dessert stations. We used some light and airy watercolor beach graphics and a cool script to set the tone for a laid back party. Let us know what kind of sign you need for your next event!

Our gift to the bride and groom-to-be was a bottle containing messages from the party guests wishing them well and giving a few pieces of advice for a happy marriage.
To go with the coastal theme, we incorporated a combination of Manzanita and Grape Wood into the decor. Manazanita branches made a bold statement with white flowers in our large table centerpieces while the Grape Wood adorned the tall cocktail tables, gift table and kids corner table.
To add a beachy touch without going the seashell, starfish and sand dollar route, we ordered two kinds of oyster shells to decorate the tables and use in the base of our centerpieces. These beauties came straight from Florida’s gulf coast just for this shower.

Since the kiddie guest count was close to 20, we knew we had to make a special spot for them. We covered a table in craft paper so the kids could go crazy coloring and playing games. We also provided blank paper for making cards for the bride and groom-to-be, (which turned out to be the most adorable idea we had.)
We provided crayons, noise makers, glitter crowns and cotton candy to keep them occupied throughout the festivities.

No party is complete without a photo op space! White sheers, curtain lights and eucalyptus garland made a super cute and breezy photo backdrop for guests to capture the moment. We designated it with a fun sign and our selfie station was complete!

For catering, we knew exactly who to turn to – Laura Fowler Goss. From the first consultation with our client Nancy, we knew we wanted to work with Laura for this special event. And she did not disappoint! As a starter, Laura set up a larger-than-life fruit and cheese display that included a major assortment of fresh cantaloupe, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, pineapple, a variety of eight cheeses, including local artisan Wainwright cheese, paired with baguettes and crackers.
This Florida coast inspired spread was on point. Five sushi rolls, bacon wrapped scallops with house made bang bang sauce + shrimp cocktail with house made cocktail sauce, lemon, capers and pickled okra offered a culinary tour of our favorite FL beaches! Just what our client ordered.

Individual blood orange trifles and key lime tartlets were served for dessert along with mini cupcakes for the kiddos.
Happy clients are just the icing on top of a perfect party turnout! We are so thankful for the business friendships we made throughout this process.
